FRIEDER R. Lang Frieder R. Lang studied psychology at the Technical University of Berlin, Germany, and completed his diploma in 1990. From 1990 until 1995 he worked as a pre- and postdoctoral fellow at the Max-Planck-Institute for Human Development in Berlin, where he completed his dissertation in 1993. From 1995 until 1999, he worked as research scientist at the Free University of Berlin at the Department of Gerontopsychiatry, and from 1999 until 2002 as assistant professor at the Humboldt University Berlin, Department of Education. From 2002 to 2006 he was professor of Developmental Psychology at the Martin-Luther-University of Halle-Wittenberg. Since 2006 he holds a chair of Psychology and Gerontology at the Friedrich-Alexander-University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany.

Frieder R. Lang's research interests are social influences on personality development and motivation, regulatory mechanisms of life-course transitions, productivity and innovation potential in later adulthood, as well as emotion, health, and well-being across adulthood. He has published more than 70 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. In 2001, he received the Margret-Baltes Early Career Award of the Gerontological Society of America. Frieder R. Lang is member of the editorial board of several international journals such as Psychology and Aging, Journals of Gerontology: Psychological Science, and the European Journal on Ageing, and he serves as an ad-hoc reviewer to several other journals and research institutiions such as the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft and the Swiss National Science Foundation. His research was supported by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Research Foundation), the Volkswagen-Foundation and other private and public institutions.
