Rainer Trinczek is professor for sociology of work and organization at the Friedrich-Alexander-University since 2009. He studied Social Sciences and English philology at the Universities of Würzburg, Plymouth (UK) and Erlangen-Nuremberg from 1977 to 1983. He received both his doctoral degree (1987) and his habilitation (1993) in Sociology at the FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg where he had worked as assistant professor. From 1998 to 2009 he was professor for sociology at the Technische Universität München.

His main research interests are in the fields of industrial relations, sociology of management, sociological innovation research, Work and Life, and qualitative methods of empirical research. At present he is engaged in several empirical research projects, as e.g. a joint project with Prof. Möslein (FAU) on innovative instruments for organizational development in the context of the demographic change, and a joint project with the ISF Munich on female executive managerial staff.

Rainer Trinczek was member of the Executive Committee of the German Industrial Relations Association (1999-2007) and was heading the section on Industrial Sociology and Sociology of Work of the German Association of Sociology (1999-2002).
