Thomas Kruppe has been working at the Institute for Employment Research since 2001 and has headed the Working Group "Further Training" since 2007. He has been an outside lecturer at the Friedrich Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg since the beginning of 2015. He studied engineering economics at the Technical University Berlin as well as sociology, journalism, psychology and Latin American studies at the Free University Berlin, completing his degree in sociology in 1992. In 2003 he received his doctoral degree in politics and social sciences at the Free University Berlin (Dr. phil) and his post-doctoral degree (Habilitation) in sociology at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in 2014. From 1992 to 1997 he was Research Fellow and from 1998 to 2000 Associate Fellow of the Social Science Research Centre Berlin (WZB). From 1994 to 2000 he also was Research Fellow and Head of Data Management at the Institute of Applied Socio Economics (IAS), Berlin. Between 2001 and 2003 Thomas Kruppe acted as External Collaborator of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in Geneva. From 2011 to 2013 he acted as Provisional Head of the Research Department "Education and Employment over the Life Course".
